Introducing the Online Single Player Mode
almost 10 years ago
– Wed, Jul 06, 2016 at 05:02:25 PM
Hello backers!
I’d like to introduce you to something I have been working on recently. Some of you have asked about it already and others, if you read through the rule book, may recognize the image below...
Well, today I’d like to introduce you to the single player mode for Pocket Odyssey. If you are able to watch this video, please do so. (It’s only a little over a minute), otherwise, I explain below as well.
The single player mode for Pocket Odyssey is a free online interactive story/ tabletop combo. You will make your character as you normally do in Pocket Odyssey, but will enter the info into the story so it will remember the selections you made and change the available things you can do in it.
There are 2 main parts to this experimental design. First, the interactive story, which functions more or less like a normal choose your own adventure book.
The second part of the game is the combat, which is done using the components from your game box and a set of rules for the baddies. Also, the combats are interactive as well, each combat will have a “Combat Page” in the story itself (pictured above, right). There are options that must be selected as you progress through the fight happening on your table, this keeps the interaction there during the fight too. In-game characters will banter, baddies will taunt, the AI of the baddies may change as well or new elements to deal with may pop up depending on what you are doing.
I had two goals for this project, first was to replicate a tabletop experience as closely as possible and the second was to create a fun way of learning the rules for the game. So the game introduces you to the different aspects of the game slowly, so don’t feel shy if you don’t know anything about the rules still, just jump in!
The above images are from the character creation screens in-game.
This is a Work In Progress (WIP)
Please note that this game experiment is a work in progress. However, though the game is not done yet, you should still play it now because the software will save your progress and as new content is added, you will be able to just pick up where you left off.
My plan is to update the game with a small chunk of new content each week (by Wednesday). So you can keep visiting the same link and continue the story little bits at a time, like a web-comic. I do plan on sending another update when the game is about 2/3rds done and then another when it is fully completed.
I would love to get feedback from you here or on BGG, or wherever really. I would like to know if more of these should be made or not.
Thanks again everyone! Hope you have time to try it out!
Oh, yes, and keep supporting more Kickstarter projects!!!

Tabletop Day Sale and New Content
– Sat, Apr 30, 2016 at 12:14:32 AM
Hello all! It’s been quite a while and I know I have been quiet; I have been taking some time off and making some slow progress on getting the word out there for Pocket Odyssey. But I wanted to send an update for a couple reasons.
First, I am going to be putting the core version of Pocket Odyssey on sale tomorrow for Tabletop Day, so if you have a friend that needs a gift or you think would be interested, make sure to stop by amazon tomorrow, the game will be 50% off! $14.99 with Prime shipping. I believe this is only available in the US but am not sure about this. There are only so many copies, just as a heads up. Just remember this is a 24hr sale only, so don’t be late :D
Second, I have a couple new and unique background cards for you! Just print the file out, cut it, fold it, tape or glue it and you have a couple new characters ready to go! I have included the cards in 2 formats, a 4x6 format, where you can send the images to a 1 hour print center to pick up later and an 8.5x 11 layout where you can print the cards out at home. I would recommend printing the two 4x6 images, as the photo paper will make the prints have the thickness of a real card, but whatever if easier for you!
Click the images below to download the background cards however you want, notice the new heroes have a steam punk flavor, they would go well with the cannon knight in an adventure.
As for what I am working on now. I will be releasing another Odyssey soon and further down the road a single player mode for Pocket Odyssey. I was planning for this to be completed by now, but have fallen behind by quite a bit. But it is still in the works! Just late! Other than that, I am trying to gear up some marketing for the game and in general, am enjoying more personal time ;). Hope everyone has been able to sit down and give Pocket Odyssey a try! If not, I would encourage you again to just try out a quick combat with some friends; you may be surprised at how much fun you will have.
Thanks again for all your support! I will send another update once I finalize the next Odyssey adventure, till then, keep supporting more Kickstarter projects!

Pocket Odyssey: Fight for Your Freedom

Hello All!
I hope you are enjoying some time off! Maybe even some time playing an RPG with friends. Perhaps a micro-rpg with friends? Possibly a micro-rpg with the word “Odyssey” in its title? Perchance a… JK
This update is to introduce you to something I call an “Odyssey”. Odysseys are free digital content, a quest designed by me, that you will be able to play with your friends. If you're curious what a game session with me would be like, or just want to run something without having to brainstorm on the spot, you should find these fun. From time to time Odysseys will even include some unique rules to help create more diverse gameplay experiences than the normal game allows for. Odyssey’s will probably be released every couple months for the first half of this year, but may continue if they are really popular. The first Odyssey is entitled “Fight for Your Freedom”, read the description below to learn more!
The Colosseum is a pinnacle of entertainment, magic, adventure… and death. According to the cruel custom of this gauntlet, gladiators that find themselves within the deadly walls of the Colosseum must survive 3 trials to win their freedom. These trials not only include fending off deadly monsters, but also enduring the manipulation of the kingdoms finest wizards as they change the interior of the colosseum to suit their patrons desires. As the heroes fight in arenas such as chasms that are filling with poison gas, the wizards are playing tricks on them to entertain the crowd, as the heroes fend off the monsters and climb to the top, behold, the wizards introduce a friend that is tied down near the bottom of the chasm! As it fills with gas, what will the heroes do?! This is what the Colosseum is all about. If the heroes can amuse the crowd enough and win them over, they may just receive a little mercy from them in the form of Lifelines. At a dire moment, heroes may find magical weapons hitting the ground in front of them like a comet, helping them at the last moment. However, some dangers are found outside the floor of the Colosseum, in between fights, the heroes will encounter other adventurers that may wish for their demise. But the Colosseum is not without glory, as the heroes progress and please the crowd, they are rewarded with better and better amenities as they look to the ultimate prize… freedom. Think you and your friends can survive the ever-changing walls of this beast? Try it to find out.
If this sounds appealing to you please give it a try and let me know what you think. The link below will take you to a webpage where you can view the Odyssey and download a 6 page printable pdf to use while playing. Hope this helps anyone who may have been too nervous to use the quest cards or would just like to try a story from someone else. I would like to say again, if your time with friends is really limited but you would like to try the game, my recommendation is at least to make characters and give a quick combat a try, many times this alone will get some good laughs and a lot of fun going in a short sitting.
Also, just a reminder that if you are having any issues with shipping, including damaged games, please contact ShipNaked by email at [email protected]or by phone at 1-844-SHIP NAKED or 603-401-9386.
Thanks again for your support! Please continue supporting more Kickstarters! :D
